Inspiration

In the 90's movie, Runaway Bride, you catch this little glimpse of this classic crochet chevron blanket. I loved how that blanket used this variegated green yarn paired with a solid white yarn. So in honor of that movie, and my favorite actress, Julia Roberts, the Julia Throw Blanket was born. I hope you enjoy making this timeless crochet project as much as I did.

Gauge: Each repeat is 5.75 inches (approximately 15 cm) wide. Each C1 section is approximately 4 inches (10 cm) tall and each C2 section is approximately 3 inches (7.6 cm) tall.

Final Dimensions: 51.75 inches wide x 60 inches long (131 cm x 152.5 cm)

How to change the size: Your repeat width is 5.75 inches (approximately 15 cm). If you would like to make this blanket in a smaller size, take your desired width and divide that by 5.75 in/15 cm.

For instance - if you wanted your blanket to be 60 inches/152 cm wide you would need to divide 60 by 5.75 (or 152 by 15) which would equal approximately 10 repeats. 10 repeats multiplied by 29 stitches is 290, and then you add an additional 3 stitches for 293 chains to start.

If you wanted a 45 inch/114 cm blanket, you would need to do 8 repeats. 8 multiplied by 29 equals 232 stitches, plus an additional 3 stitches, equals 235 chains to start.

You can then make your blanket as long as you would like to. Please note that making your blanket smaller or larger will change the amount of yarn needed. I have included yarn totals for the size that this pattern needs, only.

Pattern

Note: All stitches are worked in the back loop only for this pattern. This creates the ridges you see. If you are not a fan of working in the back loop you can crochet through both loops. Your blanket will just lack the texture that is created when you only crochet through the back loops.

With Color A: Chain 264

Row 1: Beginning in the 2nd ch from the hook, sc2tog tbl, sc 13 tbl, 3 sc tbl in the next st, sc 13 tbl, sk 2 sts repeat across until the last 2 sts. Sc2tog tbl.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc2tog tbl, sc 13 tbl, 3 sc tbl in the next st, sc 13 tbl, sk 2 sts repeat across until the last 2 sts. Sc2tog tbl.

Repeat Row 2 until you have completed 10 rows with Color A, changing to Color B in your preferred color changing method during your final sc2tog sts during Row 10.

Rows 11 - 18: With Color B, repeat Row 2. Change back to Color A during your final sc2tog sts in Row 18.

Repeat Row 2 for every row, crocheting 10 rows in Color A and 8 rows in Color B, for the remainder of the blanket, ending with 10 rows of Color A until you have reached 60 inches (152.5 cm) or the desired length. If you are making this the recommended length, you should have 9 color blocks of Color A and 8 color blocks of Color B.
