Inspiration: This crochet quilt was inspired by traditional sampler quilts. This crochet blanket uses Scheepjes Catona 50g skeins plus one Scheepjes Catona Color Pack and utilizes just about every single one of the 109 colors in the pack. Each image was carefully created to use up just about every bit of yarn that could be utilized. It's a labor of love project, but so worth the end result. This would also be a great scrappy yarn project!!

I must have reworked this blanket design half a dozen times until I was able to make things fit and use up just enough colors. Each 10g mini skein can only be used for 3 solid squares or for 6 half and half squares, or a combination of both, so it took some very careful planning and a whole lot of creativity to bring this to life. I originally had the idea for this pattern back in the Summer of 2021. We moved states that Fall and I started picking at the design in the early months of 2022. I put it away for all of 2023 and started reworking the design again in 2024. Whew! I made it a top priority to finally get this blanket out into the world this year and I am so happy with the final results.

While I used Scheepjes minis for this project, I encourage you to use up little bits of scrap yarn you have to create your own scrappy version. I think that would be absolutely amazing!

Each square measure around 2.5 inches (6.4 cm). The final dimensions of this blanket came out to approximately 60 x 65 inches (152 x 165 cm).

Scheepjes Catona is a fingering weight yarn. I would not suggest using a different weight of yarn because this will result in a much larger blanket. It is also a cotton yarn (the softest, smoothest cotton yarn ever!), so this version is weighty. I think if you were to use a hand dyed sock yarn it would maybe weigh a little less.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner due to the creation of the half and half squares.

Hook Used: 3.75/F crochet hook
