The Harvest Beanie is the perfect unisex hat. I have found that even after years of my son wearing his every Winter, this hat has not stretched out beyond use. I will be sharing the free version that fits the average adult hat. The PDF version has instruction for infant through large adult sizes. Read on to learn about the design inspiration and all materials needed to create this crochet hat.

Inspiration
This crochet hat pattern is full of squishy texture. The Harvest Beanie is one of those hats that you want to live in because its cozy meter is out of this world. It’s 100% husband approved. My husband already is letting me know the colors he wants this one in and one of my awesome testers said her husband stole it already (and it’s not even Fall yet!). You. Need. This. Hat. In addition, with its simple design, you’ll be able to get this pattern going and not have to look back. Enjoy that Netflix/Hulu binge and a little mindless crocheting!
Sizes - I will be sharing the instructions for the average adult size. The PDF version has infant through large adult sizing options.
Supplies Needed
- Crochet Hook: 5mm/H and 6mm/J I love using Furls Hooks. They are so comfortable and I don’t get stressed hands or wrists like I once did.
- Yarn: Approximately 250 yards of Worsted Weight yarn for the average adult size. I used Caron Simply Soft and Lion Brand Heartland for my samples.
Stitch Abbreviations
FDC – foundation double crochet
FPDC – front post double crochet
FPDC2TOG – front post double crochet 2 together
SLST – slip stitch
Important Notes
Gauge: 3.25 stitches per inch. If your worsted weight yarn is too thick your hat is going to be too wide and squatty.

Pattern
Row 1: With the 5mm hook, Fdc for 18.5″ and join in the round. This should give you around 60 stitches if your gauge matches my gauge. Be sure your stitch count is in multiples of 2. Please remember that when joining foundation chains in the round you will need to chain one less than what you need, as your joining chain creates your final stitch. Please also note that this stitch count is used with the Fdc. If you choose to start in the traditional method you may need a different count; again, be sure it’s in multiples of 2.
Row 2: With your 6mm hook, Ch 2. Fpdc around each st. Join with a slst to your first st.
Row 3: Ch 2. Fpdc around your chain 2 from the previous row and your first Fpdc. Fpdc around each stitch remaining. Join with a slst to your first st.
Repeat row 3 until you have reached approximately 9.5″
Decrease row: Fpdc2tog around your chain two and the next two Fpdc. Fpdc2tog around the next two Fpdc around. Repeat until the end. Join with a slst to your first st.
Leave a long tail for closing. Weave your tail through every other stitch around. Cinch tight and knot to close.
That’s it!! Now go create one in all the colors!!
